Upcoming at the Voelker Orth Museum:
Indigo Dyeing Workshop
Sunday, September 13, 1:00 – 3:30
Artist Dani Song shares techniques for working with indigo, a natural dye. Best known as the dye behind classic blue denim, plant-derived indigo has been used for thousands of years to create its rich, vibrant blue.
Learn the basics of indigo dyeing and explore shibori, the Japanese fold & stitch technique, to
Create your own unique patterns. You’ll fold, stitch, tie, and dip cotton fabric into an indigo bath, then watch the fabric transform from green to brilliant blue as it meets the air—a process that never fails to delight.
No experience is necessary, and all materials are provided. Just bring an apron or wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little blue—getting your hands stained is part of the fun! Come ready to experiment, create, and take home your own beautifully hand-dyed indigo textile. Spaces are limited, so book your place and join us for a colorful creative experience.
Registration: $12 / $10 for members and students. Contact the Museum to reserve a spot.
