We wish you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving as we head into the holiday season.
It has been busy a year for the Voelker Orth Museum, Bird Sanctuary and Victorian Garden. If you have been able to come to any of our diverse programs, you realize that we are trying to serve the many interests of our community. Our Oktoberfest Flushing Style: Sauerkraut & Kimchi offered a hearty welcome, over 2,000 school children went home with terrariums, learning about plants and the water cycle, and two summer evenings of free Shakespeare drew crowds. Voelker Orth cultural programs educate, entertain and welcome all ages in an intimate setting of a 19th century parlor and garden oasis.
Family events, such as the Honey Harvest Festival, provide quality programming with low barriers to participation. Admission and registration fees cover only a small portion of our expenses. Our endowment fund partially maintains the property and support of our programs and operations. We are sustaining our activities in the wake of deep cutbacks to federal funds. Individual contributor support allowed us to restore the historical façade with a new coat of pink and white exterior paint. Your contributions help refresh and care for the period rooms, garden, and visitor activities of this 135 year-old house. With your support this season we will be creating new experiences for visitors of all ages. And, we can maintain our registration rates for school groups and workshops.
